1. In Port Malaya, speak with the Old Legend Teller (malaya 285, 332).

• He tells you the old lady has returned as Bakonawa and will soon seek vengeance on the village.

2. Ask him about calming Bakonawa.

• He mentions a damaged Slate Piece held by his granddaughter.
• Find her near the harbor.

3. Speak with the Old Man’s Granddaughter (malaya 304, 100).

• She questions why you want the fragment but gives you the Old Slate Piece (not shown in inventory).

4. Return the Slate Piece to the Old Legend Teller.

• He asks you to track down a wandering merchant.
• He suggests visiting an immigrant in the northwest forest for information.

5. Find the Malaya Immigrant (ma_fild02 40, 240).

• He tells you Bakonawa has been threatening the villagers.

6. Ask him for the story.

• He explains about a wooden doll to repel spirits and mentions the wandering merchant moved to Baryo Mahiwaga.

7. Go to Baryo Mahiwaga and speak with the Malaya Immigrant (ma_fild01 165, 237).

• Listen to his story.
• He suggests investigating a nearby stone.

8. Examine the Stone Record near him.

• It is badly damaged, but inserting the Slate Piece reveals a puzzle.
• Though unclear, you manage to read part of the record.

9. Return to the Old Legend Teller and report your findings.

• He asks if you can defeat Bakonawa.
• Accepting, he rewards you with 3 Ancient Grudge.
• He also instructs the Village Chief to grant you access to the lake where Bakonawa resides.
